Feeding Seattle

Description

This was my final project at General Assembly, which was super open-ended as an assignment. I knew I really wanted to use Socrata's Open Data API, so I browsed their datasets until I found a Seattle DHS dataset with all of the meal programs for homeless and low-income people across the city. People using the site can browse meals by breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or filter out meals that are restricted to a particular demographic. They can also save a printable list of their favorites. For users who are fortunate enough to not need to rely on these programs, there are also links on the about page to providing organizations so that people can donate their time or money if they so choose.

I'm planning on maintaining this site and making some changes going forward, including switching it over to Meteor and React, creating better UX for mobile, and overall updating the design and usability. I'd also love to make it something that the open source civic tech community contributes to and makes better - I'd really like for it to be a useful tool for social workers and homeless shelters around the city.

Technologies Used

AngularJS, Socrata Open Data, Node.js/Express, MongoDB, Bootstrap, HTML5/CSS3
